We've probably racked up $6000 in medical bills over the past 6 years - most of that for 2 bouts of pancreatic ailments - VPI paid off on about $4700 of that. That's better than MY insurance! They always have an excuse. I have found that if I appeal with AKC, they sometimes pay the claim, but VPI has never paid on appeal. They are always looking for an obscure reason not to pay. For example, if a dog has two ailments on a vet visit and one is covered and the other isn't, they always attribute all treatment to the uncovered expense regardless of what is on the vet records. I have never even broken even with either policy but I keep them because they both SAY they are good for surgery, accidents, etc. - the really big expenses. I am afraid that no matter what is wrong with my dogs, the surgery won't be covered. If anybody has a better solution or better policy, please let me know.
