Our pets are like members of our family, and just like humans, it can be expensive to care for them if they get sick. Thankfully, there is pet insurance that is available to just about anyone that has pets.
Dogs can have a lot of health issues, anything from heartworms to joint issues, and as they get older, more and more dog owners are finding that they have to take their pet to the veterinarian a lot more often and they are also finding that they must give their beloved pet more medication. Pet insurance can help dog owners get the care that their pet deserves.
Exactly what does pet insurance cover?
Pet insurance can cover just about any ailment that your pet may experience. Everything from emergencies to medication. Just like health insurance for humans, there is often a deductable that has to be paid. After your deductable has been met, that is a reimbursement that will be paid back to you in order to cover any other expenses that you have paid out for your pet’s care. There are also add-ons (such as wellness plans) that can be added to your insurance policy.
How much does pet insurance cost?
The premiums of pet insurance differ. Basic plans will have deductibles between 100.00 to 500.00 dollars and many times the insurance will cover up to 80% of the veterinary costs. Many times, there will be a “per incident” cost. Depending on the package that you choose, the amount of “per incident” coverage costs can be in the price range of 2,000.00 to 14,000.00. Some additional coverage’s may add more coverage to your plan, but you may also only have one “lifetime” incident allowed for that additional cost.
Just like a dog, pet insurance is one of the best decisions that you could make, for yourself, but pet insurance not only helps protect your pet. It also protects your wallet from costly visits to the vet.

Some good information here. Vet costs are very high. This economy makes it very difficult on pet owners. I am lucky that I have such a healthy dog. I also have had some luck in finding low cost vaccinations for my pet. I am interested in the prospect of health insurance for pets. Thanks for the info.
