Should I Get Boxer Dog Insurance?

Boxers are a great dog for first time or experienced dog owners alike. Boxers puppies are adorable, high energy puppies that are relatively easy to train and even easier to love. Though Boxers are generally stubborn, they are also very intelligent and catch on quickly to the rules of the household. After the initial excitement of bringing home a brand new Boxer puppy, dog owners should think of the dog’s future health care and whether they should obtain Boxer dog insurance for their new companion.

Health Problems Common to Boxers

Even though Boxers are usually a healthy and strong breed, they do have a history of sustaining a few common health problems. Some of these problems include digestive or stomach problems, hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, and malignant and benign tumors. While digestive problems may be more of a nuisance than a serious health problem, the rest certainly are very serious. Hypothyroidism is a condition that can be treated with medicine, but that medicine will be required throughout the dog’s life. Both hip dysplasia and tumors, whether cancerous or benign, can require surgery, which can be costly to the pet owner.

Deciding On Pet Insurance

When your Boxer is a puppy, it is hard to imagine that he or she may suffer serious health problems in the future. And with some luck, your Boxer will live to a ripe old age without ever falling victim to any of these conditions. But in the case that your Boxer may require surgery or prescription medication, pet insurance can help to cover those costs. Even if planning that far in the future seems silly, your puppy will probably need to be neutered or fixed, and visit the veterinarian often during its first year. Pet insurance can help to pay for veterinary expenses in the expensive puppy years. Not only will pet insurance save pet owners a lot of money, but perhaps those savings could be applied towards puppy training classes or even chew toys, so that household furniture may also survive the puppy years.
