Dog Training - Bringing Out the Best in Your Dog

Are you tired of being disregarded or dragged along by your dog when you’re going on a walk? Have you been living with your dog for months now and after you put your whole heart into raising your dog, it still ignores you when you say, “Come!”? Maybe it’s time you learn how to train your dog.

Training Your Dog

By nature, dogs want to be trained and be guided by their owners to build a strong owner-dog relationship based on trust and mutual respect. Plus, in training your dogs, you will have confidence in them and total control of them which absolutely leads to a more happy and joyous outings.

First of all, let your dog get used to leashes inside the house. It is easier to leash-train the dog inside the house because it would be deprived from distractions it might encounter outdoors. Also, you would not have to compete for their full attention and appreciate more the rewards you would give them for being good in leash training.

Taking Your Dog Outside

When you observed that your dog is already good in leash inside the house, then it is the right time to introduce your pet to the outside world where distractions are more intense. But you should not shock the animal by those. Take it step by step – a gradual introduction of these distractions is the best. For example, walk your dog to your backyard and let it smell and familiarize itself to the new scents and scenes it didn’t encounter inside the house.

Then you can start walking with your dog outside. While walking, observe your dog’s reactions to the different sights and smell it currently processes to its mind. If your dog has failed you by not walking nicely on leash, then maybe you are being too abrupt to progress. Go back to indoor training and this time make sure your dog fully mastered the basics. However, to those who have observed that their dogs are quite good in their walking-in-leash performance, then it’s a good sign that your dog is prepared for a much higher training.

Solving dog behavior problems are much harder than the previous tackled training. You must equip yourself with patience and accompany it with love and care. With these three ingredients, behavior training wouldn’t be that hard. When you want to correct your dog’s misbehavior, you must do it immediately because waiting too long would not associate your corrective actions to their misconduct. Physical punishment is a big no.

By spanking your dog, it will soon be afraid of you and never come to you anymore. By simply startling the dog by howling “NO!” or clapping your hand in the air or rattling, a can with coins would stop your dog or puppy in his current actions. But, avoid showing to your dog that the startling sound comes from you. Because if the dog figures out that it is you making the noise, it will just stop misbehaving whenever you’re around and continue to perform it the moment you are away. When you stopped your dog from misbehaving, give him rewards and praises for it to remember that what he does pleases you.

Training your dog doesn’t only mean a harmonious life to you but also to your dog. It is something that should be planned ahead of time like having the best dog insurance. With proper behavior and obedience training, you can bring out the best in your dog – that same living thing you can trust and rely on.
