If you own a purebred, AKC registered dog, then you should have AKC Pet Insurance. With a purebred dog costing anywhere from, $200-over $1,000 dollars, you should definitely protect your investment. Just like a family member, you AKC registered dog, will need pet insurance, when emergencies, or illness occurs. Like any health plan, be sure to get quotes, compare prices, coverage, and any limitations to each policy, before choosing. A good AKC pet insurance company will offer a variety of policies, for you to choose from. Some have up to five plans with coverage up to $13,000 dollars. A good plan will also treat all breeds equally, in their cost, and coverage.
What are some reasons for having AKC pet insurance?
You can be prepared for emergencies, or unexpected vet bills. You will be able to get assistance with wellness care for your pet. You know the heartworm pills, rabies shots, flea, and tick control, just to name a few of the wellness care your dog will need. In addition, don’t forget about their teeth. You don’t want your dog, especially a show dog, to have teeth that are less than perfect. Wellness care coverage will help you to pay for that too. So those are the well care reasons, to have pet insurance. But what about other illnesses? Did you know that every year about six million dogs are diagnosed with cancer? That is a staggering number, when you think about it. Cancer treatment for your beloved dog will undoubtedly be very expensive. However, if you have planned ahead, and purchased pet insurance, then you will be able to get your dog the treatment he needs, without breaking your bank account. Most plans are affordable, when you consider, the things they cover, and peace of mind you will have, knowing your dog will be well cared for.
What are some negative aspects of getting AKC pet insurance?
Well of course the biggest would be paying for something, you may not use. Of course, you will use it some of the time, for well care of your pet, and maybe never have an emergency. To me it is worth it to protect my dog, my best friend, and my investment. You could stick money away, in a savings account, or a rainy day fund, to cover pet care, if you are able to stick with it. I find the insurance option to be the easiest, and most effective way, to be sure my pet is protected.

Yes I did have this insurance and it was a horrible experience. I thought with the AKC name affiliation it would be a quality product. Not by a long shot. After having this insurance for years, time came for me to have use the “illness” portion of this plan. After tons of lost claims forms, denied claims, rude customer service I then found out I only had the “ILLUSION” of insurance while covered with this deplorable company.
The AKC does not cover heriditary, diabeties, kidney, arthtiris, genetics just to give you a snap shot of what to watch out for. Now add — annual PER INCIDENT maximum, I only had the “Illusion” of coverage while insured with the AKC.
After years of coverage and multiple policies I immediately cancelled with the AKC when I learned of the “Illusion” they sold me.
I am now with a quality provider who truly offers wonderful coverage and does not have the “catch all get outs” that the AKC does.
Not only did I loose my sweet boy — the AKC even denied euthanasia while covered with the “Wellness Plan” and the euthanasia was medically necessary. So when I state the “Illusion” of coverage I mean it. The AKC insurance offers you reimbursement for rabies shot once you weed through the AKC FINE PRINT — now I ask — what kind of insurance is that?
You have NOTHING while covered with the AKC.
