I brought my 5 year old shih tzu to banfield because she excessively drools at times and has got a little thin, They performed a checkup on her and blood test and gave her her annual shots, and that night my dog has been barking in pain, and she still is. I don't know why and I don't want to go back to banfield because they don't give me any answers. They say that everything is a possibility which doesn't really help. And they charged me $12.50 for nail clippings??? Everything cost me over $250 but I got a free exam coupon on there website before I went, or else it wouldv'e been over $300. When the vet was talking to us she made us sound like bad owners for not clipping her nails....? Their nurses are nice, just the vet I have a problem with. My dog is still crying in pain, and I don't know what else to do. I want to take her to another vet but since we got the blood test (that we don't get the results til 2-3 days later) to know what's wrong. I am not going back to Banfield, I feel like they've brought more problems to my dog than she already has. And I would not recommend anyone Banfield either.

Bansfield is very underhanded. You call and get a price quote, then they tack on all sorts of "extra fees" including "medical disposal." I took a feral cat in for spaying and the bill with all "services and fees" was over $650. When I called they quoted $350. I feel totally ripped off and now they are even telling me that I will have to pay an additional fee, on top of the $650+ to get the spaying staples removed. Unbelievable. I will never go back to Bansfield and will definitely tell anyone I know with pets not to go.

I believe you should always "test out" any veterinarian that you plan to take your pet. Banfield is no different. There are some banfields out there with uneducated associates, however there are also many with a great staff, great doctors and honest prices for treatment. I encourage anyone to go to banfield and get a basic examination. Meet the staff. Heck, even see the clinic(you are allowed to ask to see the clinic per Banfield policy). If it is gross and you don't like the staff. Go somewhere else. If the clinic is clean and organized, that is a clue that they care about their hospital.

The experience my wife and I have had with Banfield is apparently very different. We have worked with two different Banfields in two states for eight years (and prior to them several other vets) and we can say unreservedly that Banfield has been great for our cats. We are both biologists with a healthy medical background, so we have a pretty good clue what's going on. We have always been impressed with the care Banfield provides and their manner with animals (even if some employees could use a little work on their manner with people).

We have Banfield wellness plans for our cats, and they have been very helpful at covering the costs of visits, prescriptions, etc. We have an elderly cat with joint and kidney issues and the care she has received has been great, and her wellness plan has reduced our out-of-pocket expenses.

I realize that a nationwide chain like Banfield is going to have issues and not everyone's experience is going to be like ours. However, given the significant anti-Banfield sentiment expressed in this posting, I wanted to make sure readers are aware that some people have had very good experiences with Banfield.
