Try checking into Embrace. I am now covered with them and they are fabulous, prompt paying, professional staff, SUPERIOR provider. You can have them review your pets medical history so you know upfront if and what issues you may have and make a determination from that evaluation. I had the AKC it was deplorable – now with Embrace it is beyond fabulous. AKC lost my claims, had rude customer service, long hold times, denied claims. Embrace does not have the per incident maximum as the AKC does and Embrace allows you to customize the plan. Embrace is FABULOUS!

I had been very happy with AKC for my 2 dogs for the past 6 years. I had the top plan that included preventative care. I must say it took them forever to pay a claim. But I was never denied a claim. So I was very happy. Then the $100.00 deductable went up to $125.00 then the premiums were going up every year. But I felt stuck because if I switched insurance co everything they were ever treated for would become pre-existing so I stayed. UNTIL… last year my premium went up 100%. yep it doubled. From about $705 per year per dog to almost $1500.00 per dog per year!!!!!!!! I didnt have time to react and switched them to the essential plan which only covers illnesses with a $3000.00 dollar cap per incident. that is costing me almost $900.00 per year. I am done with AKC. Switched this year to Trupanion. Getting so much more for a fraction of the cost. Unbelievable!

We are considering pet insurance for our almost 3 month old Australian Shepherd. The AKC plan offers many choice and the Wellness Plus Plan, while expensive, appears to have a lot of coverage. After reading these comments I’m about to rule any of the AKC plans out. I’m in the process of comparing plans and it’s making my head spin. Any additional insight would be great appreciated. We have never had pet insurance before and we’ve always had multiple pets. Our Aussie joins the 5 cats in our household!

I have two Miniature Schnauzers, both covered by AKC Pet Insurance. I have the Wellness Plus policies.I have submitted claims for wellness visits, medication, emergency visits, etc. I have not had any problems and if anything was denied, it was because I didn’t read what wasn’t covered, e.g., they will only pay for 6 months of Frontline and I bought 12. My one dog was bitten by a bee and had an allergic reaction. Took him to the emergency clinic per my vet. He was examined, given shots, etc. He was kept overnight to monitor as his reaction was very severe. AKC Pet Insurance paid for everything–can’t remember the %, but most was covered. Also, they do not pay for teeth cleaning or extractions and that is part of the policy. Will pay 100% for spaying/neutering. There is a co-pay and a once a year deductible. I had VPI insurance and it was horrible. Denied most claims, a $50 deductible for every visit unless it was in conjunction with a previous illness. A large yearly deducible. Not worth the money. Also, the AKC Pet Insurance gives a discount for multiple pets. I’ve not had any problems and hopefully will not encounter any. The form is easy to download–just bookmark it or print out several copies. Customer Service was very helpful, not rude at all.

The AKC Pet Partners Insurance only provides the ILLUSION of insurance coverage is absolutely an accurate statement. As for myself when you come to a time when you need the insurance for a “major” illness – the AKC is not partnering with you — in fact they deny claims and don’t pay — so for all the years you pay to have insurance for your beloved pet — it is only an ILLUSION the AKC provides you with. They denied diagonostics, hospitalization, and many other things. Yes they paid for a minor wellness exam — I could have paid for that myself with the cost of the premiums 1,000 x’s over — I did not purchase insurance for “wellness” it was for “illness” — so I just paid for the “fantasy of insurance coverage”. I STRONGLY suggest any other provider or self fund before ever getting involved with the AKC. Be sure to know the AKC Loop Hole with “Per Incident” and realize all the heritary issues they will not cover as well. You are just throwing your money away as my experience indicated while covered with the AKC Pet Partners Insurance

Can you believe I had the AKC Wellness Plan and sadly I lost my sweet boy — The AKC DENIED diagoniostic, treatments medication and the final slape Euthanasia. They have denied many, many things to the tune of $8,000. I ask do you want to deal with this type of insurance provider that states they cover things that they don’t . The AKC Loop Hole — Per Incident CLause and none of this was the same incident — but to the AKC it clearly is the “OUT” they use to get out of claim paying! They are the ABSOLUTE MOST HORRIBLE INSURANCE OUT! Think 1,000 before engaging in insurance with the AKC. Look for insurance that does NOT have a per incident CLAUSE that AKC does. This allows them to throw everything into one incident and it is not the case – but it is the AKC loop hole. LOOK FOR AN ANNUAL MAXIMUM withOUT a per incident. Something the AKC DOES NOT OFFER — if they did maybe they would have to pay the claims then. I have now moved my pups over to Embrace where they do not have the ridiculous gimmicks the AKC does. My new provider offers true customer service, prompt claim processing and a professional mannerism. All something I never had in 5 years with the AKC. Wow I needed to use the policy — and did I get the GOTCHA from this AKC insurance policy. Consumer BEWARE of the AKC PetPartners Insurance – they make you believe you have comprehensive coverage for your beloved pet and YOU DO NOT based off my experience. AKC Pet Insurance offers you only the ILLUSION of coverage.

This is an awful organization! My puppy had valley fever and the bill was over 700.00 i had the pet insurance for almost a year and AKC WOULD NOT COVER IT! Big mistake, this “benefit, ” is the exact opposite, and they will rob you of your money.

I have now cancelled with the AKC Pet Insurance. The colossal problem with the AKC is the “per incident” and “chronic” add in heredity and arthritis — so in the end you basically have the “ILLUSION” of coverage. My experience has been something is forever fallen into one of these categories – when it is not the facts. Now add in the denied claims, lack of integrity with the AKC Pet Insurance, you only paid for the “fantasy” of have a creditable provider while covered with the AKC. You pay huge premiuns and have basically nothing. As stated, I have dropped the AKC and guess what — I now have a creditable provider for my pup withou an “ILLUSION” of coverage — my new provider is based on “factual” claims processed and paid

My wife had the AKC insurance for our pups. We experienced reimbursement for dental, annual and heartworm. Then when we needed the insurance for illness they through everything into “per incident” when clearly it wasn’t and did not pay thousands and thousands of dollars in claims. They DID NOT even pay for euthanasia. She moved to another provider and is OVER THE MOON happy with the service she receives for our pups along with NO PER INCIDENT GIMMICK like the AKC has and the cost was better and we have the peice of mind knowing we ACTUALLY DO NOW HAVE coverage for accident and illness without the gimmick of the AKC. We did not purchase DENTAL INSURANCE for these costs — in the end we only had “dental”. What a joke the AKC was.

WE have had a nightmare with the AKC — We are taking to our State Department of Insurance for review. This company needs to be held accountable. I would suggest EMBRACE insurance. They have superior customer service and no PER INCIDENT LOOP HOLE like the AKC Pet Insurance does.

Our experience is they even denied euthanasia for my beloved pet, I am filing with my State Insurance Department – I had the AKC WELLNESS PLAN and it is USELESS in every way. You think you have good coverage EXCEPT the AKC has a HUGE LOOP HOLE that puts everything as ONE INCIDENT and then they DENY the claim- even when they have separate illnesses listed on the EOB they PREPARED and clearly they are not the same incident.

USELESS has been my experience as well as heart break with the AKC PET INSURANCE. STAY AWAY if you truly want to have your pet insured. Many other providers with excellent COVERAGE — like Embrace!

A good resource to check out is pet insurance review (one word) dot com. They provide real consumer experience on “ALL” insurance companies. I found it very helpful in my selection of a new provider. AKC for me was beyond horrible!
